Are La Ceiba and San Pedro Sula good places to vacation in Honduras?

Scorpio asked:

How are the beaches in La Ceiba? Are there hotels for around $25 a night? Are there a lot of women to meet there for single American guys?

The beaches in Ceiba are alright, but the some of the best ones (besides the Bay Islands) are about 45 minutes West in Tela. It is a popular spot for tourists and locals because of the beaches. You can easily find hotels for $25/person a night, but it won’t be at the nicer resorts (i.e. TelaMar), or directly on the beach…but it would only be a $2 -$3 cab ride. On the flip side I would say there are more girls in Ceiba just cause its a bigger city…and they like gringos don’t worry, but you should be able to find plenty in Tela, I did.

As the previous answerer said, Tela has nice beaches and the hotels are cheap. I did stay in Tela back in 1997 right on the beach, $20 a night. The nightlife ****** though. Tela is a nice place to take a girlfriend to, if you get my drift.

Ceiba is the place to meet the girls. You have to pretty much be a loser not to find a girl every night. There are some great hotels in Ceiba.

I’d avoid San Pedro Sula if you are interested in meeting girls. As they say in Honduras, in Tegus they think, in San Pedro they work, in La Ceiba, they party.

been to both, was disappointed by both…the offshore Islands might be a better choice, though they are mellow places. I met plenty of pretty single women there, travelers and locals. I also preferred Copan Ruinas, near the Guatemalan border. Again, slow paced, but plenty of pretty gals and scenery.
Crime is high in the places you ask about. Experienced up close and personal. I would go back, but only on my way to another place.
